On Sunday, October 4, riders gathered at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham for the sixth annual Henry Ar Foon Bike Ride. The ride honored a Chinese cycling pioneer of the late 1800s and brought his story onto the roads of the South Shore.

Riders set out in three groups: two on the 37-mile route and one on the 17-mile route. Larry Finison rode with the shorter group and met all three groups at Henry’s gravesite, connecting the day’s miles with the person the ride remembers.

Richard Bourque reported a good day on the road, with some headwinds on the return from Hull. Suzan shared these group photos afterward and thanked Richard for organizing the event and bringing riders together.

Thanks to everyone who joined the ride, to the ride leaders and organizers, and to Suzan for sharing the photos. Thanks also to Melanie Morris and Larry Finison for helping bring Henry’s story to more riders.

The story continues online. Watch five short excerpts from Melanie’s conversation with Larry and Henry’s relative Steve, covering Henry’s cycling life, community involvement and family memories.
